(Registry)Hive File Corrupted Help!

Post by Losing_grip »

Hello , i dont know why my computer suddenly can't start normally.
It keeps getting this error everytime i start it.

It appears on blue screen of death and says.

STOP:c0000218{Registry File Failure}
The registry cannot load the hive(file):
\SystemRoot\System32\Config\System
or its log or alternate.
It is corrupt, absent, or not writable.

Beginning dump of physical memory
Dumping physical memory to disk: (Counts 1 - 100 then start to boot and this screen keep showing up.)

Any idea would be greatly appreciated.

Thanks

heres some steps on fixing the files using recovery mode of the cd.

Code: Select all

http://support.microsoft.com/kb/307545
if you are just going to instal windows, install it to a seperate partition or use the drive on another pc and set as slave then move the files and save them before continuing.

hope this helps

ok,relax,im am a pro at fucking up my computers, but i generaly find it easy to fix,ok in my experience i think you should relly install windows on the same partition or a sperate, but dont wipe the old windows,if you install it on the one partition then the new windows will open in windows.0
ok if you are the only user on the comp i would ,make your documents and setting shared, thats how mine are, that wya if you get probs then you just copy it over the documents and settings
if you have a second computer copy the entire hdd or whatever you need
ill post some more stuff later

if you have not done it yet dont wait the other suggestions that are very good ones try also useing a great trick I use called winternals boot disk I use loke 2006 or 2005 version and that gets allot of problems back also I think it was already said But use a seperate hard disk and new install or ghost Norton ghost the original drive so you have a backup then new install or copy all important data off that drive to a storage drive I have done that many times and after all the folders and data is backed up then only then do a new windows install sometimes you can mix the data together and get allot of the old crap working of the backups just by copying the system and other important windows files
