Oh hell
I remember making one of these or at least one like it. I had to make an alarm clock using digital gates. I would love to help you but you will need to give me more details.

For example: did he give you a guide line for how many or what types of IC's that you have to use?

How many digits are you wanting to light up?
PLEASE give me all your questions...

From what i gather all the parts are simple and i will briefly explain them.

Code: Select all

- IC1 looks like a 7 segment display drive. Basically in this arraignment it is an IC that can drive a seven segment display using only 4 bits as the input. Your lucky your teacher did not make you design the circuit without this IC.

- IC2 is an Synchronous up/down counter,binary/decade counter. It takes a clock pulse or button input and increments it; sending out 4 bits to IC1 that in turns translates it to the display as a number "in base 10"

- IC3 is a quad NAND IC that is being used cleverly as a clock as well as a flip flop denouncer because of the human input.

Now all of this is being translated without the data sheets and just off my memory. I am 99% sure i have this correct but as the A student that you are you can find the data sheets and confirm my post.

If you need more help please ask. I get far to eager to make digital shit and this is a great building block towards digital understanding.

I can PM you the parts but they are already listed in the schematic. If you want similar parts i can send them to you, but mostly i need to know the goal of the project.

Does he want you to make a clock? This looks like 1 section of a clock
Does he want you just to light up a 7 segment display ?
I need more information...
