eewww, sounds tricky =/

I had a similar problem, but mine was that it froze after a few seconds. So i had a few seconds on me to turn it off ^^

But can't you like go into safe mode and uninstall it?

no need to, after deinstalling it the desktop should start again normally, if not post the error message.
but you can also post the content of the xorg.conf file (the name might be a little different, depending on your distro, simply take a look into /etc/X11)...

don't worry, most likely only the xserver config needs to be fixed.
what Linux distribution are you using?

I tried to help her yesterday in IRC, we tried with removing the compiz packages to kill the functions. Didn't work so we tried to do it the way i got it fixed before.

Turns out she doesn't have internet on the comp so she either didn't get all of the packages or she got older versions ^^

When it was working I could acess the internet either wireless or wired, but I always had to choose. When I was first setting up the stuff, I had to configure it manually. It never automaticlly connected to the internet from either sorce.
I did the automatic updates and the sudo apt-get update thing too.....

well, sorry to repeat this VERY important mantra

"Jesus Saves, So Should You!"

Always back-up important data to another resource, a web portal (email yourself), a diskette, or USB Thumbdrive.

Never Trust A Machine, is the second mantra

So Sorry.

I'm kind if scared to.... just b/c I'll get curious and I'll most likely blow up my computer. Knowing me, that is possible.
But tomorrow, I'm spending sometime to fix her. I'll try it tomorrow.

T

Update: ok, so I did this thing, and I got the blue screen with really odd text.... I got this error code many times:

Microcode bcm43xx_microcode5.fw

and I saw randomly that I was missing /usr/share/fonts/xll/cyrillic

I remember I did have problems w/ bcm43xx. I had to add that to something... I cant remember exactly.

Gah, this sucks.
