ok so im helping out a friend. he wants to completely revamp his laptop.
heres the situation. He has an external dvd drive which is a usb interface. it does boot windows xp. he can boot from usb. THe big kicker is that his internal dvd drive is dead.
ive thought of everything i could think of to get it so he could reinstall windows. when he switches so it will bot from usb (in the bios) and pops in the xp install disk it will not boot into the windows xp install disk. is there any way to get it so he can boot up or what can we do?
i would really apreciate any help. anything at all would be very helpful
more fun with laptops.

Well, you could always try to replace the internal drive ^^
Also there should be USB configs in the bios, that may help with the external one. Also check if the comp detects it properly, and if it does then change it to boot first on that device.
