i got one of those big removable hard drives and i was wondering if i can install linux and boot with that and vista?

It's possible if you can boot from USB from your bios - check that out first.

What do you mean by "removable hard drives" That could be any kind of drive =/

Anyway, generally you can only boot with Linux and Vista if you install vista first and then install Linux and let it make changes to the boot table

If you are running Linux via USB, it will run slower than it would on an SATA HD - for the obvious fact that USB has a slower transfer rate than a SATA connection. However, if you are running an operating system off your hard drive, and your not booted off your external hard drive then all should run as normal.
