[Suggestion] A suck-o Ventrilo server?

Post by ayu »

We talked about this pretty loose in the IRC, and it sounded so very very good ^^

how about a Ventrilo server for the Suck-o members? ^^

Like different channels for different games and or discussions

For example, we could have a new add to the side panel on the site for registered users. That would show the servers status, ping, address version and password. Also maybe a link to download the required client (it's very light weight).

I have set it up on my home server, but it only supports 8 clients and my line is thin so it would be pretty loaded ^^ also i download a lot so that would fuck things up.

Anyway, how does this sound? =)

Cats, perhaps you would like to check out the open source alternative - http://mumble.sourceforge.net/ . Looks like something that you could look into, to support free software as well as having a free solution without breaking any laws. On a side note, laws are just laws anyway, who cares - right? :P

Point taken ^^

The idea was that we should use a commonly used software. But i will have a look at this when i "wake up". Kinda just woke up for some reason =( it's in the middle of the night xD nn ^^

Please, please, PLEASE, pick mumble. I'm not fond of having to uninstall Ventrilo and having to install the old version to chat with fellow suck-o-teers. Everyone else I know is using the latest version.

I will vote yes as long as we use something other than Vent OR the latest version of Vent.

Vent can be downloaded as installed and simply extracted and run though, and it would still have the same settings since it takes (i think) the settings from the registry.

Anyway Big's suggestion sounds reasonable =)

I'm gonna try it out in school today and see how it works out.

Anyway, need to eat something x_x can't sleep

Ok, i have tested mumble and so far it looks good =)

I like it : D so good choice Big ^^ just gotta figure out how to install it on the nix server...doesn't seem to work very well. Seems like i have to use the regular Desktop version of Ubuntu to get it working fast...all the missing packets seems to be GUI related somehow.

hm, for a game server we would need more resources, but well, I'll test how well ET works on my home server...then we'll see. so just the voice server first...

Ok, well earlier today (around 3PM US Central Time) I ordered all my parts for my new gaming monster. I say this because I'm going to convert the computer I'm using right now into a Debian Server. I've decided that I'm going to make a server out of it.

I want to be very clear: I am not making any promises. I am going to make a game server out of it and see how it effects my brother's gaming. If it affects my bro, then I'm not going to be able to host it. If I do host one, I predict that it will not be a large server.

We'll just see how this goes.
