Pretty much every single one of them sucks.

There's the original "Hackers", there's "Operation Takedown", "Antitrust", "SWORDFISH" :P

You also have these documentaries... like "The Code (Linux)" and "Freedom Downtime".

Google can really help you here, there are many lists.

thank you so much. By the way, you can also watch the war of Bill Gates and Steve jobs in the movie entitled "The Pirates of the Silicon Valley". It is not related to hacking but is a very good film.

You all forgot War Games, but G-Brain is right - they all suck. I suggest watching tutorials opposed to a fictional movie. Although pirates of silicon valley is based on non-fiction and imo is probably the best movie listed here - it`s a 'documentary style' movie.

hacking is not glamorous

Post by DNR »

Its funny, hacking is boring, takes a long time to acoomplish, and requires study of eye-burning technical manuals. Yet everyone likes the 'power' associated with hacking. I mean cops get to shoot guns, and drive cars with flashing lights, but yet no one wants to be a cop

Trying to video or play a hacking scene in a movie is very hard to make exciting. Most of the work might be command-line and obfuscated words - shit that 99% of people ain't going to know whats happening. Even hacking with a GUI is going to be a non-event, unless someone codes the app to say "Welcome" after cracking a password.

So I guess the best hacker scene was the hacker in swordfish who had to hack in to a account, at gun-point, while getting his dick sucked - cuz thats what hacking feels like to me

The Matrix is also a good choice of a movie, the conceptual plot.
Will you take the red pill or the blue pill?

Ah yes, 23: Nichts ist so wie es scheint. Very interesting, especially because there's a movie with the same story from another viewpoint: The KGB, the Computer and Me.

And how could I have forgotten The Pirates of Silicon Valley, that one's great too.

Also, watch Office Space :P
