Use something else than things like :"I need help, Please help me"...etc. Try to post in the form: Windows2000 password recover.
Now, to solve your problem, if you can't boot in from any way, use a live distro and copy from this location c:\windows\system32\config
SAM
SYSTEM
Then you'll be able to bruteforce the password. I've heard that on 2000, you can actually simply rename the SAM file and the password will be gone... haven't test it tough...

purloined computer
I think you have a stolen computer
Look, I could care less if it is stolen, but you are treading on dangerous ground. Beware that the computer might also try to connect back into the school network once you had bypassed or cracked the login - at least it might try to login to the school server, leaving an IP of your internet connection.
Reformatting would wipe out all the data on the HD, but you would also lose the drivers for the video card, sound card, etc. Too bad, it would have been nice to see what was on the HD. I thought you would have simply booted to a liveCD and just deleted the sam...
I steal books, so what.

"Got" doesn't always mean 'brought'. And of course "whoever had it before" does imply it is not brand new, used, and belonged to someone else. More over, when you said "whoever", it meant you do not know who owned it before.I just got a computer and It has windows 2000 installed I know the log in details but whoever had it before...
I noticed you distance yourself from the item, by saying "this particular" instead of "My", and you said it "ran off a school network", meaning it was configured to be a part of that network. This particular computer ran off a school network

why do you need the drive with windows on it?
just format it.
if cmd is disabled open notepad type in command.com save as a .bat and run then do a quick net user command look what the user is and change the password by doing what cats said in your case it will be net user Administrator password
then log off and log in with the admin pass.
good job on stealing the hard drive. stealing makes you cool.

HD's are cheap
You mean like 'almost pregnant', or 'kind of dead' - you stole the harddrive.
You went through all that work to get the HD from a box on the school network, and instead of cracking it and learning a lot about the school's network, you are going to erase it.
You didn't even get a computer.
