[Experiment] Install Linux to a noob

Post by ayu »

Ok so i installed Ubuntu 7.10 for my neighbor about a week ago.

And at first he liked it....but now he called and said that he wanted Windows again because of the following reasons.

"Looks weird.."

"MSN acts weird"

So...now my plan is to find all kinds of XP look alike themes that i can and then setup msn for him so that it works better.

The fun part of installing it for him was that i wanted him to see what he thought about it, and when i told him about Linux he said "What's Linux?" and he can hardly operate a Windows box.

So, anyone else tried to install Linux for a newbie? or maybe you have some tips to make it look like XP? i already found some themes, but i need much more.

I do not think that you should expect people who can not appreciate the power of linux to be happy with it/ Linux is for those of us who understand its qualities!

As for your other question I was thinking of getting my sister to use linux but that is going to be a difficult task. I showed it to her before and I am not sure what she thought of it because she did not say much.

The problem as I see it is that she is into all this fashion stuff and hags out with I guess the popular crowed. So she thinks that she needs the stuff that is popular. She wanted once to get the apple laptop!

So this summer I am thinking of getting her to adopt linux but I am not sure yet how to do this. I am afraid she wont want to hear about it!
