Be true to hacking

Post by DNR »

One of things that was so unique about getting in to computers and networking was meeting people you otherwise would not have met. Did you think I was going to start dialing numbers in a phone book to find someone like B_B or C-Thug or Cats to talk to on the phone? Is watching people on TV or a movie the same thing as actually being able to have a two-way conversation? If suck-o was just published on newspaper - would BB have gone through all the trouble of translating it to english and distribute it world-wide, for free?

Remember that the internet was created as a communication link between important entities, not just the mil, and the edu, but the gov. The principle of a computer network is that it can take any path to get back and forth between its users - in case one or more paths were down. Packets would be reassembled in their proper order at the designation.
Communication was in text form, there was no IM, no VoIP.

I can understand a lot of people today - they didn't know what it was like before - so they don't respect the technology. Back in my day, I had to work for my own first car. Nowdays, many kids expect that mom and dad will give them one on their 16th b-day. People act without respect or dignity when in a chat room or even post lame websites.
Now, thats not to blame young people, even adults that now use the internet - but never experienced the progress of internet growth, abuse it too. Porn and pornographic behavior by grown adults is down right embarrassing.

People abuse the power of the internet. The power is not just anonymity, but the ability to reach out to many people. People that otherwise would never have met. Abuse can be spam, but it can also be in the form of taking it for granted. Freedom might best be described as the freedom to talk to anyone in the world - and have a voice that can be heard around the world.

Suck-o is true to hacking. Besides promoting the growth of education into computers and networks, fostering the spirit of effort among people interested in sharing knowledge and experience, and promoting healthy ethics too, suck-o is hopefully going to be a valuable archive. Suck-o serves the first rule of hacking - promote thinking. The second was - reach out - break the barriers of not only location, but social, economic, and educational levels. The third I guess would be archiving important stuff not just technical stuff but even personal growth of its members.

If suck-o is to be truth, its members must be true. The members must reconize the power of the internet and treat it with respect. I guess I wrote this to remind us that we are not here for ourselves.

I know what you mean! I remember back in the 90's there was talk about the internet but it was not widely available. At least not in my area. I spent a while anticipating this new technology to arrive. I knew what it was from the articles that I read but I never got a chance to work on it.

When I first got a chance to work on it I spent only a small amount of time on it. For years that did not change. Now days my approach to it has changed. I spend more time on it. I download torrents. I communicate on IRC...

I remember how difficult it was back than to find information about some one or some thing. For instance in my signature I am using a quote from Terrence McKenna. I learned about him way back in 95 and I wanted to learn more about him. I liked his ideas and I just wanted to learn as much as possible about him. However, that was difficult. You can not research about him in the library because there are no books on him. So what do you do? Now days you just google his name download the his torrents and it takes you just a few moments.
We will either find a way, or make one.
