So im working with ubuntu hardy heron. and i loooveee it. so much.
anyways im trying to get wine to update. but it will only go to 9.59. and im pretty sure that wine goes higher than that. So if i were to install from binary or anything like that would all of my settings and programs be changed or screwed up or anything like that?
Wine updating
It would be easier if you just waited until Ubuntu updates it since they are only like 1 update behind, and they update kinda fast.
But if you insist then updating from source shouldn't be an issue, it might overwrite some settings but I don't think your programs will get touched. Best would be if you could try it on another machine (like a virtual one) first.
Anyway you can get the newest version here:

I could be wrong here since I don't use windows I mean ubuntu(I get confused with those two sometimes) but I believe it comes with the GNOME graphical environment which means you should be using CEDEGA not wine although cedega costs money it runs better in general and you can always avoid paying money if you don't have moral quams ^^.

Cedega is meant for gaming, so for regular programs wine is enough. Also seeing that you "confuse" Ubuntu with Windows sometimes I will assume that you have some sort of problem with Ubuntu, which opens for a debate in the debate forum! I would love for you to join in
