External HDDS

Post by Shimo »

Ok so I've been wanting an external HDD but have been way to cheap to buy an enclosure... I've been looking for a while now for instructions on makeing my own ide cable to usb setup... Its frustrating to say the least... All I can find are tutorials on how to put a HDD in an enclosure... Who needs help with that? :'( well if anyone can help me with a tut I will be very happy... I have the wire lieing around already...

man, it's not as easy as you think, it's not like "connect the red wire of the USB cable to pin 10 of the IDE plug"....you'll need a controller that converts the signals. and to be honest it's better to buy such a converter cable because building one yourself will be even more expensive I guess...such cables go for 10-15 bucks.
but well, if you want to do it as fun project:

Thanks after a lot of research I found out it is a little harder then I had hoped... :'( meh still sounds like a fun project but in the mean time I think I might stick to retail... Thanks for the resource though.. I still wanna give it a shot... See if I learn anything out of it.
