good p2p client needed

Post by bad_brain »

can anyone recommend a good p2p client? open source prefered.
I use Vuze at the moment (formerly Azureus), and the new version simply sucks...when I exit the app it stays as background process so I have to kill it manually in 90% of the cases. I also suspect it as reason of my last Thunderbird crash (Vuze is 100% Java, and the Spamato plugin for Thunderbird is also utilizing Java, Vuze was running in the background again when the crash happened).

Was pretty sure that Shareaza was open source before, doesn't seem like that anymore though :(

You could always use Azureus 2.5 or you could just try using Azureus with out vuse.

In Azureus
Go to tools-options-Interface-Start-Display UI switcher- Choose Classic : restart

this should stop vuse loading when started up

I'll second uTorrent. Technically it's not open source, but it is free.

hm, I think I'll go for µTorrent... :-k
thuggy, 2.5 worked fine for me, I use the classic view on the new version too...the only thing that really annoys me is that it don't really shuts down when I exit. I'll give µTorrent a chance first, if I am not satisfied I can still go back to Azureus 2.5... :)

ok, I had some time today to check it out (had nothing better to do because all servers were offline  ), and yeah, I like µTorrent so far, compared to Azureus it is very lightweight... :)
