Fate Website
Fate is a simulated hacking challenge, there is no ranking system, and the simulation is run entirely from your own computer. Fate is currently only available for winblows based systems unfortunately but will be ported over to other OS's in due time....

HackTheGame Website

In this game you play a hacker. When you first log in to your hacking console
you get an email from someone you don't know, who asks you to do a hack for him because he heard great things about you. If you succeed, your name will become more known, and you will get more hacking assignments.

I looked at hackthegame over a year ago and liked the format. The other thing i liked about the game was the time allowed to get in and out of the system before the time runs out and your caught. Never tried the other so will take a look at it when i have time later

I personally recommend Uplink. It's really quite addicting and although it doesn't require any 'real' hacking knowledge it's a lot of fun. At least until you beat the entire game inside and out. But then theres the modding community. Although i never delved much into that. I just hope someone mods it for online play sometime in the future. Anyways heres some screenies and a desc.

High tech computer crime and industrial espionage on the Internet of 2010.

You play an Uplink Agent who makes a living by performing jobs for major corporations. Your tasks involve hacking into rival computer systems, stealing research data, sabotaging other companies, laundering money, erasing evidence, or framing innocent people.

You use the money you earn to upgrade your computer systems, and to buy new software and tools. As your experience level increases you find more dangerous and profitable missions become available. You can speculate on a fully working stock market (and even influence its outcome). You can modify peoples academic or criminal records. You can divert money from bank transfers into your own accounts. You can even take part in the construction of the most deadly computer virus ever designed.

Ah, i have a copy of this game at home. I 'payed' for it obviously... ^_^

Awesome game too, i almost beat it, and then it crashed on me, putting me back at my last save, which was really far back in the game (i got addicted and played for like 12 hours at a time lol)
¯\_(ツ)_/¯ It works on my machine...

Try deleting it with this program:

Code: Select all

http://www.softwarepatch.com/software/moveonboot.html
It works for me just fine when that happens...

check the running processes, maybe there is still a background process accessing the directory. get Process Explorer from the downloads to check it, you can also easily kill processes with it (right click the process -> kill process)....

I already killed just about every process in sight the first time around and none of it worked. I ended up making my computer shut itself down instead xD. I'll get process explorer though, it sounds useful...My hoarde of software utilities is piling up.

the good thing with Process Explorer is that you can replace the crappy MS task manager with it...so no extra icon or start menu entry...
