How to tell how many hits a keyword gets?

Is there a way? There must be a way to see how many hits a certain keyword gets on google or yahoo or such.. like say i want to see how many hits google got for "paris hilton" last month, or how many searches were done for "ubuntu" last week?

I guess what im trying to figure out is how to see how many searches were done for a certain word on google.. other search engines would be nice also
