Web filters question

Post by Holytoaster4 »

i'm sure other people on this site have to deal with pesky web filters that inconviently block you from doing things. everyone says that the best option is to use web proxies ,but those don't seem adequate anymore although i'm using one right now. I want to know if there is a way to stop it from blocking you. maybe redirect automatically when it blocks you or something like that that will cause them to admit defeat. is there any other way than hiding from the filter. the particular web filter that is pestering me is from 8e6 technologies.

I'm not sure if this should be posted in hacking or whatever because i don't know the nature of the solution, or if there is one.

Sure, I will give you a bit of a hint to see if you can figure it out.

Filters work by deep packet inspection, where they read the data and pick and choose keywords from the site in question. What happens if this data is hidden ie. encrypted? Of course!!! Check out OpenVPN @ http://openvpn.net.

This is a pretty common question. Since I used library and college networks when I was fooling around with hacking tools, I had plenty of contact with programs used to censor or monitor the desktop.
The Barracuda Web Filter combines multiple techniques, including URL filtering, URL rewriting, and MIME type blocking to provide powerful control over policies covering Web site usage. Capabilities include:

•URL filtering by content category. You can define policies that restrict or allow Web sites based on their categorization. The Barracuda Web Filter includes definitions for 58 content categories, including pornography, violence, hacking, sports, news, dating, and chat sites.
•URL filtering by domain name or URL pattern. You can customize your content filtering policy to restrict certain Web sites, or look for specific patterns in Web site addresses. Advanced administrators can specify URL patterns to block using the very powerful UNIX regular expression (regexp) syntax
•Image Safe Search integration (URL rewriting). The Barracuda Web Filter takes advantage of the “safe search” content filtering capabilities built into image search engines, such as Google, Yahoo, and MSN. If enabled, the Barracuda Web Filter Image Safe Search feature rewrites URLs for these image search engines to include the URL parameters that restrict display of objectionable content in cached image search results.
The above quote is typical of a third party server application, it can be Websense, 8e6.

Filters can also monitor and stop ports of known tunneling software as a new feature. So vpn tunneling is getting tougher.

No matter how hard your try to hack the desktop, you still have to get by the server that controls internet access. It seems it has gone beyond mere firewall to a server setup to bridge the intranet to the internet. The job is much easier when they hire a third party software vendor that farms out the job to a couple hundred customers.

It doesn't sound like VPN is going to very help much. Maybe there is something there that i missed.

There is an override code to these filters although i don't know the password, i have seen it typed in once. It's username is principle yes for some reason they spell it wrong and it has 12 characters in the password. Maybe there is a way to get the code. This wold probably be simple if the filter were their only weapon but they also have deep freeze and stricts windows xp user restrictions.

Maybe you could brute force it from a usb plugin drive? or you can get an ironkey usb drive and surf the net on any computer with a usb plug in with no problems via ironkeys built in encrypted firefox, they may also have screenagent or some type of software that captures your screen and what you do so be careful. I know alot of people that used them at work to get around the web filters and goto myspace, youtube, surf porn and download mp3's and such lol

I'm not familiar with the ironkey thing how does that work? Bruteforcing it might work. I've been thinking of trying that. although i haven't been able to get my hands on any bruteforcing software that works. I know there is no screenagent or even any history checker.

hm, I see no other way than using a proxy....anything that actively interferes with the school network might cause a LOT of trouble for you,
if you don't want to mess around with unreliable and slow proxies why not setting up your own proxy at home and surf through that one from school?

because that would be terribly slow. i'm not able to get high speed internet. i would not want to get past the school filters so badly if i could go online and do stuff at home.

surf threw a diffrent proxy then.. just google "socks5 proxys" and you will find a couple that will work. What you are trying to do sounds pretty lame imo, just get a ironkey, or get a cheap usb thumbdrive and try to duplicate a ironkey. If you bruteforce it theres a 65% chance you will get busted probuly. Admin's tend to noticed 100+ failed login attempts in a row on one of the machines.

i've given up on this. i don't care anymore. the reason i have not been on this site for a long time is because the school admins found out i was downloading things. now they think that i am trying to hack their servers and change teachers pay or every students grade to Q or something like that. they have banned me from that computer lab and they are watching me in regional occupation program so i wanted to lay low. i figured going to a hacking site wouldn't look too good on someone pleading innocence of hacking their servers. i feel retarded for trying to find a more permenant solution to the web filter and retarded i am. now that i know that i am not being watched i can probably start visiting this site more regularly.
