Debian VS Ubuntu

Ok, i did the boot and nuke and reinstalled Debian with the bare minimums the regular way, no server stuff, no LVM or LVM encryption, and still get that same message. I think it may have something to do with a hardware setting or hardware. Because when I had XP installed some files on the desktop when i tried to copy them for backup to my external USB drive the machine would just reboot.. :?:

Edit:: I can login via single user mode command prompt, but the gui way is giving me the error.. would it give me that error because i used the same PW for root and the main user?

ahhhh... ok..

wow... really? how much disck space does it take to install?

shows 0% available /dev/hda1 on a 40GB drive

I used a version of Debian KDE that works great, found it in my cd folder it was the one i used last time

hm, I guess you maybe made an error during partitioning, because 40 GB are more than enough....I use just 20 GB for example... :-k

Dont think i did an error in partitioning, i set up Debian/KDE the same way i tried to set up with etch (tried the etch install twice) kept getting that error
at gui login
