well, you have definitely a lot of unneeded services running....disabling those services will also cut down the number of svchost processes.
my system is very optimized, so take a look how few processes are running on mine without losing any functionality:

best copy&paste the loaded handles of the process you suspect on http://code.suck-o.com , the loaded handles are displayed on the lower pane in Process Explorer when highlighting the process...

Which ones do you recommend to disable?

phew....you have more processes running than entries in the phone book of New York...

ok, let's start with the ones that are safe to disable...start->run->msconfig, disable the startup entries for:
- jusched.exe
- ati2evxx.exe
- jqs.exe

now program settings
- disable the "Tea Timer" in Spybot
- get and run the "ctfmon remover" from the suck-o downloads
- disable the "Machine Debug Manager" as shown here:
http://support.microsoft.com/?scid=kb%3 ... &x=18&y=11

start->run->services.msc
set the following services to "disabled":
- SSDP Discovery Service
- Windows Time

there are surely more services you can disable, but some depend on your system config and used programs, so it's better to only disable these ones for now.

The sidebar for CPU nfo is duplicating what process explorer can do for you - I would just have PE and uninstall that sidebar.
Watching process explorer can help you catch the cpu hungry applications, watch the line under CPU in the PE window, and use the right click to adjust priorities or kill them.

Minimized, I only have the CPU usage icon in the taskbar - occasionally I'll watch the I/O window..

I notices you know the URL of the dowloading site.Simply put the URL in your Host file then it will return a 127.0.0.1 address and go nowhere.

Then download Process Explorer from http://technet.microsoft.com/en-us/sysi ... fault.aspx .It will tell you every program or dll each svchost is useing.

And if you want to be super safe go to http://www.mvps.org/winhelp2002/hosts.htm and get there latest host file

This problem is already solved by disabling BITS at startup.
But thanks for the tip about HOST files. I'll sure try it out!

And welcome to Suck-O.
