I'm very suprised china didn't make the top 10 for most censored. They even censor wikipedia for god's sake! I guess it shows there are worst places to live in terms of freedom.

damn ...

I actually laughed when I read the lowlight about North Korea xD

It's so fucked up xF
After a deadly munitions train explosion in April 2004 in Ryongchon near the Chinese border, KCNA reported that citizens displayed the "spirit of guarding the leader with their very lives" by rushing into burning buildings to save portraits of Kim "before searching for their family members or saving their household goods." The international press, meanwhile, was barred from the scene, where more than 150 died and thousands were injured.

hm, I guess the situation in Lebanon makes it simply too hard for journalists from other countries to get in contact with the citizens, because every cooperation could be very dangerous (for both sides)....and so objective reports are almost impossible. maybe that's why it's not on the list.

do you know any critical blogs (in context with the government or the hisbollah) 3XTORTION? :-k

Authorities have called on international technology companies such as Yahoo, Google, and Microsoft to provide information about bloggers who use their platforms.
Now this sounds pretty interesting. Can the companies do that ? Provide information about their users without permission ?

I guess anything goes these days. And if we are talking about lack of freedom them why be confined to commies and islamic countries ?

In my country India, the supreme court made a verdict to jail a blogger for the comments that his blog attracted. Which by the way were not made by him. From now on any blogger is responsible for the comments in his blog.
Also in this country the police still exercise various torture techniques that can be termed... well inhuman is an understatement.
We still have various encounter specialist cops. Who guns down suspects who don't really have any evidence against them to stand in court. This in the largest democracy in the world.

Then why only us, what about US ? The "Land of the free, home of the brave ". It's no secret that NSA has massive database of Americans' phone calls. And let's not forget the CARNIVORE system by the FBI.

I mean just think about the USA Patriot Act. It's ridiculas .

As reported by the associated press :

Freedom of association
Government may monitor religious and political institutions without suspecting criminal activity to assist terror investigations.

Freedom of Information
Government Has closed once-public immigration hearings, has secretly detained hundreds of people without charges, and has encouraged bureaucrats to resist public records questions.

Freedom of speech
Government may prosecute librarians or keepers of any other records if they tell anyone that the government subpoenaed information related to a terror investigation.

Right to legal representation
Government may monitor federal prison jailhouse conversations between attorneys and clients, and deny lawyers to Americans accused of crimes.

Freedom from unreasonable searches
Government may search and seize Americans' papers and effects without probable cause to assist terror investigation.

Nothing is free anymore. The islamic countries and the commies do it out in the open and the rest ? Well u can still sue them for it.

thanks for the links 3XTORTION... :) I found a video made by an arab christian, it's pretty interesting what he has to say....ok, it surely includes some generalizations and isn't 100% objective, but it also includes facts I didn't knew yet....let me know what you think about what he is saying:

DrVirus, of course governments can do that....most politicians have multiple "jobs" besides their official functions in management boards of big companies. that way they can give the company valuable insider informations and on the other side they can influence the company policies.
for the politicians it's a win-win situation, but for the citizens it's bad because they never know what interests a candidate is really representing....vote for candidate X and you're not just voting for his political party, you also vote for Shell, Microsoft, whatever.

Well hes right in many major points. But i dont think israel is that innocent like the guy is picturing it because they killed many lebanese familes, babies and destroyed our county's infrastructure. But yet again hes saying a good point that we should support israel to get rid of muslims in middle east and thats good. But you shouldnt confuse 2 things:Extremists muslims and moderate muslims. Here in lebanon we have both.I myself as a "Christian"(Im not much into religion) find that we are a very small country, we are just like monaco, luxembourg and other touristic countries. We only rely on tourism and war every 2-3 years to kill and slay israely ppl is just insane !!I think the guy from the vid has a gd point, and we as lebanese should do like many other arab countries have done in the past, and to accept the peace with israel and get over it !
I mean yes we have martyrs because of israel but we will have more and more and more if we keep making wars with them cz we're a small country and they are supported by USA.So theres no match !

+The coran notes that wherever the muslims are living, a muslim empire should be established and that proves the guy's point of view.

Note:We as lebanese ppl dont speak bad english like that guy.And many ppl think we're like afghanistan ! 8O Lol. Well we're not and no we're not terrorist, i mean at least not all of us ! lol. We're a divided country : Christians, Muslims(Sunnit, Chiit, Druz) and all want to dominate but just like the law of the jungle the more powerful wins ! and thats why ppl recognize us as terrorist and extremist muslims !

When people want to talk about politics, society, and blame, they should stick with their own country. I find a lot of ignorance and misunderstanding when people try to talk about things they know little about.

I myself, can't say for sure what the problem is over in Iraq, Iran, or even mexico. I can talk about my society's problems, my government, and what its like to be an american. It would just come off badly if I started to tell you what the problem is over in Israel and the gaza strip. If Iran does want nuclear power, who am I to say no?

DrV, you are misinformed on the Patriot Act. Even the Carnivore is old news. The database of phone calls is limited to numbers and date and time - they already figured out its not technically possible to store everyone's phone calls.

Just keep the Fear, Uncertainty, and Despair in check. Thats what they want you to feel. The system of governments and corporations is worldwide - they want to use FUD to keep us separate from each other. they want us to think we are all different, that I have it better than you, or that everytime an american, german, chinese, or arabic person tries to do something nice - you question their motives. As long as we can't get along with each other, there is profit to be made. The system can be religious, but it is mostly the rich pitting the poor against each other.
