WirelessNetView

Post by DNR »

WirelessNetView can show the following information:
SSID, Last Signal Quality, Average Signal Quality, Detection Counter, Authentication Algorithm, Cipher Algorithm, MAC Address, RSSI, Channel Frequency, Channel Number, and more.
This makes WirelessNetView the best wireless scanner to carry on your USB drive as its portable and works on XP and Vista.

On the Mac side there is a utility named AirRadar. Available at http://koingosw.com/products/airradar.php

Social engineering

Neat find, i also recommend another of the free tools on offer from this site...

Wireless key view.

This will also run from a usb or other removable media and shows the WEP/WPA passes. Although it doesn't show the actual passphrase it does reveal the hexadecimal form of the encrypted pass. This can also be entered and will connect to the network just as the passphrase will.

Code: Select all

This links to the question on why you shouldn't tell people what you do. Tell your neighbors that you work on internet security and if their pc gets a virus or starts to go slow or needs anything just to let you know. Be that mr nice guy that just doesn't mind helping the people around him, even do it for free and feel that a little bit of good is worth it all and its not for malicious intent. Pop in your usb save the files to txt file and your ready to go. Have the tools you need on the usb already that you need so you dont need to look suspicious and keep unplugging it and plugging it in for each software you install, like spybot and ccleaner for instance, maybe a firewall and av like comodo, process explorer is another.

You never know when work will take place in your area with your ISP and may need to log onto the net for that all important ebay bid. What ever you do dont change the password from default or any other settings in the router that may cause the router to restart and give people an incling that something is wrong.

Another thing, While you are fixing the computer goto the properties and check the computer name, usually on a windows machine it will be something like mary-26354. When logging into your own pc change the name to mary-34235 or anything but the same, just keep the main part of the id the same. You could also clone the mac address to something very similar, this way it may look like its just an older login of the same machine or a laptop that hasn't cleared.

Yeah you could crack the wep/wpa but sometimes social engineering can be the quickest and safest way

This for learning purposes only so that you can help others from falling into the same trap. :P

On another note are they MD5 salted hashes can any one tell me.?
