I was wondering what would be the best way to learn, or have a good overview over the AS/400 ?
I have this PDF document that has a lot of info, and its good read it... But for hands on, how can this be done ? ( definitely I'm not going to buy the system )

wow talk about old school. The AS400 is still in use by many companies all over the world, it is still a popular server OS. Its commonly packaged with IBM servers.
I was taught RPG/400, and even the word RPG is old school - Report Program Generator has been around since the computer's birth.
In AS400 you load libraries, just like C/C+.
In AS400 you create a database, and then write script to mine information from the database. (remember, data is not necessarily information yet!).
The AS400 is a NOS, and accessed by clients.
The AS400 responds to commandlines, just like DOS, or linux.
As you can see the syntax is understandable.
Another NOS I learned about was Novell 4/5

Learning the AS400/RPG400 was pretty simple, I had already learned to write basic code in C/C+ and I had experience with commandline in DOS. The principles are the same - this is one of the reason why I believe if you learn to write one kind of code, you have the basics down for writing/understanding other codes.RPG is one of the few languages created for punch card machines that is still in common use today.
