most common used passwords

Post by moudy »

hey there every one, how's every thing ?
I was wondering, what are the most common passwords used by people on the internet ?
For example people use things like:

- password
- password1
- 123456

.... and so on

so can any one tell me more on this issue :D
and thanks a lot

Most people would use stuff like:

*Things that are in the same room
*Social security number
*Names (mothers, fathers, pet)
*Combinations of the above

Some use the most cliché ones like qwerty and asdf ^^

i have known people to set the router password to letmein

As cats said usually it parents names or children and even if you tell them to mix it up alpha numeric they only add the year of birth etc to the end. Most of the time people are able to guess the passwords rather than brute force just takes a little patience and a little social engineering.

An even greater flaw in weak passwords - people reuse the same password for all their other accounts! So once you crack their YIM login, chances are it will work in their email and bank weblogin!

some people use the same password on every account with a slight difference, like for example:

password1
password2

or

name/family name 1
name/family name 2

and so on...

so that they wont forget the main password, but the passwords are not alike

ok guys, i decided to update this post with some data, and some twisted evil

any way, i know this is illegal, so im not going to post how I did it, or what i did, but ( but its nice to know such data ) I came up with the following results:

in a list of randomly chosen hotmail contacts

49 out of 9077 contacts have the password set as 123456

which is equivalent to 0.539%
