Modifying PHPBB Code

Well thats the advantages of OpenSource is that you can modify with the code and make it better.So i downloaded a copy of phpbb and tried to modify it and merge some cool features from IPB and vBulletin.

I installed phpbb3 on my wamp server,opened index.php and its completly different than the forum's homepage !So I searched in the folder themes and stumbled upon index_body.htm and tried to edit some code from ACP but also this isnt the complete index.php page !

Anyone have a clue ?

simply have a look at the inclusions in index_body.html:
overall_header.html
overall_footer.html
forumlist_body.html
and so on...
