I think the number of posts, and the stars count / color is very good

better keep the classical, and don't go into the hassle of choosing a new rating system, because its only a rating system and doesn't have to do much with the actual content of the site.

yeah, imo we should keep the ranking system as it is now.
actually post counts and ranks says nothing about the user "status" anyway....and to use polls in order to give users staff status is a bad idea, because one of the most important criteria is that the user has to get along with all already existing staff members...and therefore such decisions have to be made by the staff....

I see what people are doing - when they first come here they look at the post count and stars of the senior members. I am sure people give 'weight' to responses from people that have more stars and more post count.

They can also look at "date joined". But I think you have to consider all of them - 'date joined', how many posts they made, and stars to decide if they want to trust the answers they get.

There should be a rank, and it should be based on member parcipation - excluding the people that post oneliners to get post counts.

Ok,I proposed this before but it seems that it got ignored for some reason...So here goes :

-"The Hard Drive" section(Downloads section) but it includes more Tutorials, Source Code, Blueprints, and other resources that all relate in the field of technology. And how about expanding the staff and recruiting a dedicated team who will monitor and watch over the section to make sure everything stays clean and organized, along with making sure that it continue to grow.
