Question About Software
Hey Guys My Friend Asked Me "If I Downloaded Software With Cracks Can They Trace It Back To Me Like They Do With Illegal Music Downloads?" Now I Wasn't Sure What To Tell Him So I Said "Let Me Ask Some Friends Who Might Know More Then I Do On That." Does Anyone Know If They Could Trace It Back To Him Thank You.
If Man Made It Man Can Crack Or Hack It & If You Want To Be A True Hacker You Need To Keep Your Mind Open And Always Be Willing To Learn

Yes. The amount of "warez" that phone home horrifying.Chaos1986 wrote:Hey Guys My Friend Asked Me "If I Downloaded Software With Cracks Can They Trace It Back
Up to you to prevent them from doing so.
It's possible, my cracked Dreamweaver was found out even though it was blocked by a firewall...the warez tracking thing is possible..
The end result was a warning from my ISP..them saying they got a complaint from Macromedia.
This was about 2 months after the HDD which had Dreamweaver had crashed.
We got a warning for both versions of it I had(I'd been meaning ot delete one).
Later All.

well, when you block all access of the app by your firewall you´re pretty safe (well, there is no 100% guarantee), but the real dangerous part is to dl cracked apps on file sharing channels. those channels are watched, believe me....in germany they busted dozends of people some days ago for sharing mp3s...

Correct me if I am wrong, but ISP's (etc) search for the filesharing programs on your computer, right?sternbildchen wrote:Ur right bad_brain ...
Disinstaled LimeWire and Kazaa and clenaed up my pc
How do ya'll think a torrent would register? It isn't exactly P2P, the files are on servers. Even tho they can be be stored in a shared location on your comp, you can always disable seeding.
Do ISP's only check for actively running filesharing progs? Torrents (depending on the connection) usually dl quickly, then you can close out of it.

Sure, and I totally agree with you.H4evr wrote:Yes that's right. But that would go against the spirit of P2P. If everybody follows that, there will be no seeds so there will be no downloads to get. The end of P2P.
I only keep everything seeding while I am downloading, then I close out of Azureus.
Bear in mind we are running a server, I dl music, play games...All on a 5/6 yr old laptop:)
I can't keep Azureus open all the time.
Anyhoo, the purpose of my questions were to clarify, not to condone using filesharing progs and not share
