formating a hard drive

Post by nightkid »

i have a hard drive that i'm dual booting and i want to format it. The tool i've always used is called Disk Kill but when i try to boot it i get something along the lines of fatblockerror 0000.x07, it will scroll increasing the last digit
if i start my box i can select bt4 or windows 7 and they both boot how they should. Any suggestions for completing wiping out this drive?

You might use the operating system disk to format it. Try using windows or Linux. You can also format it while running windows. Just turn off power to PC, plug it in to computer, make sure its a slave drive unless it serial then you might not have to, reboot windows and right click format. Of course depending on the file system windows might not recognize the disk drive. If so use windows 7 disk tool.

the best tool to manipulate HDDs is the Gparted live CD imo:
http://gparted.sourceforge.net/livecd.php
it's Linux based but can handle all MS filesystem types too, I even resized a NTFS partition successfully with it already...
