ok this probably an annoying topic for you guys... its all over the internet. Basically, i once told you guys that i am scared to mess with my internet cuz my laptop is my only access to interent. But that didnt stop me... I was messing with airsnort and ethereal, i dont know what i did, but i lost the connection. So i had to go to a certain relative i live with and who's internet i am using and had to ask him to type in the Wep key again, the bastard wont tell it to me!
I am kind of stuck with these programs(ethereal, airsnort, airattack) I managed to get ethereal to work, i catch the packeges. now i dont understand how to use that with airsnort. Any good web sites or tuts for that? or should i keep trying on my own?

What type of internet connection does he have? DSL or Cable?

If it's DSL, go to you your browser and type in "http://dslrouter" (without quotes). this should bring up your DSL router settings. On mine I went to Wireless > Configurations and I had all the WEP encryption keys displayed.

If that doesn't work go to the brand router website and download the manual. It'll tell you how to access the router settings using your browser. After you have access to the router settings you're pretty much home free. Just look around and you'll find the WEP encryption key.

I'm assuming you did mean WEP Encryption Key.

thanks stavros. well when i go to my DSL router settings, it says that i cant do any changes until i log in,so it requires a password...
I do have access to his computer so if that makes it easier...

1. Wifi connex can go on/off. especially if you get weak signal strength. While I sit here and surf suck-o, I can lose and reconnect several times. Most software will regain the signal again, but you'll want to save your work before 'posting' and always try to get the best locations. I sometimes park in the handicap areas because its the closes I can get to a signal. I have parking lots with wardriving tags written on parking stripes to help me find the sweet spots (and other digital nomads to find)

2. if the password cannot be recovered, and you have physical access, you'll probably just use a paperclip to press a button inside a tiny hole on the router, that will reset the 'lost admin pwd' (thats why APs/Routers/Servers should not be physically accessable to others..

Hello i am back. Took me a while to find time to do some research. Basically i found on interent the tutorials for my belkin wireless router and read them. I didnt find anything that would directly help me, but i learned a lot of stuff. I have read about encryption stuff and figured i have WPA-PSK TKIP.

DNR you are right about keeping the router box away from intruders. I didnt even wanna try to reset it cuz it would be way too easy and i dont really wanna mess up the entire network... I read that you have to hold the reset button (its actually a hole) for about 10 sec in order for it to reset to factory settings. If you just push it once it will reset but save the settings.

I tried the default passwords, but they are changed.

I have a place [network properties] that says "network key" and has those **** I dont know if thats the wep key. I would gladly take the program of yours anyway lol

Basically i could hack this by using a key logger and asking him to type the wap key, but i wanna do it the right way

So as of now i dont have the wep key, and i dont have the access to the default gateway website of the router(it has a password).
