Violence in Youth
Violence in Youth
Why is there so much violence in the youth? What gives them that attitude? Has it always been this way?

Yes. It has always been present in youth.
I think it cultivates from a lack of wisdom as well as wanting to test ones strength against others. Its got to be a "status" issue in groups, and or, wanting to rebel from the established. Another big one may include the fact that most kids don't know who they are just yet and are confused - some think TV / radio is how life should be. On the contrary some live in a violent place so they end up as a product of that environment, naturally.
Of course this is my theory, I am not a psychologist or a behavior specialist. Just speaking from my own background.

...but I have to say..I think Flood covered it awesomely.
I think that there is a difference between youth of past and present.
I have watched media get more and more violent. My day - we had leave it to beaver, My three sons, Happy Days - no video games, until pong and atari, no violent music.
Now days - kids can be exposed to this at a very early age. Kids do learn from watching, and they do assume that TV is real life.
So instead of the old days of settling fights with fist, its now shotguns and 9's. Instead of thinking about getting a job, a girl, and a house - its pimpin, stealin', rollin', and bangin'.
The effect does not have to be deliberate - the media poisons the mind sub-consciously, people act and not realize why they do.

hm, imo times have changed....of course there was always violence, but as DNR said, things were a lot different when I was a kid.
when I was 12 or so a naked boob on TV was the talk of the day in school the next day, now you have access to the worst SM porn as soon as you are able to use a browser. same with music, when I was a kid an album of a german band (Die Ärzte) was x-rated and only sold to people 18+ because of one song where the text goes "Claudia has a shepherd dog, and she has it for a reason"...and nowadays? "yo, I'm a gangsta and killed loads of people already, look at my Mercedes, I bought it with the money I made by selling drugs...oh, and all girls are bitches and of course I will fuck them all".... and nobody really cares about such verbal diarrhea anymore, seems it became a normal part of our society....another reason not to be a part of it.

Here is relevant clip from the Daily Show about the "good old days". It's about the US in particular, but the point remains valid.

Times were better when you were a kid... because you were a kid.
