right Sternbildchen, IE is a malware-magnet.....use Firefox instead and Thunderbird as email-client instead of Outlook, get Ad-Aware and Spybot too.... together with a firewall and a virus scanner it´ll provide a pretty safe system.
of course you have to update the programs and run full system scans regularly..

b_b is correct.
I used to do a lot with warez, cracks, serialz, etc etc etc.
Went to bookoo shady sites, dl'ed a bunch of stuff b/c I didn't know how to write the programs myself
I have crashed a few comps and learned the errors of my ways; the hard way naturally.
Eventually, I had a firewall (whatever comes with cox.net broadband, I forget), AVG (crap, I know) plus free trials of other AV software all the time (when the trial was up, start a new one with a new prog), Ad-Aware and SpyBot, totally disabled IE in favor of Opera..
Still used OE, but disabled pretty much everything you can disable for it. If I wanted to view anything, I logged into my Webmail account.
Anyone using Windows needs a heckuva lot of security, inmho.
Better Luck next time
Thanx Guys

Well, both kaspersky (or is it kapersky?) and avg antiviruses are pretty good, no matter what lbg says.
And what firewall are you using? I suggest sygate personal firewall, which you can get in the suck-o downloads.
Thanx

well, no antivirus proggie is ALL good...they all kinda suck in some way, which ones best is depending on the user preferences and even on the hardware...I use Norton which most people hate, but for my purposes it´s working fine, the opposite with Panda Antivirus: it´s winning test after test in computer mags, but for me it´s nothing but a catastrophic piece of bad code
anybody tried Clam for windows already? ClamAV rocks in Linux, so I think it can´t be that bad for Windows, it´s even the same scanning engine:

Oh, hah:)
From what I was told, AVG doesn't update their definitions lists often enough to be up-to-date.
Still, I used it anyways b/c there aren't many free *full* AV's out there.
It is funny tho, how you get a butt-ugly troll GUI popping up at you whenever a virus is found:)

antivir and spyware scanners are only as good as their updates. AntiVir works for me.
Surfing hacking sites and other warez is sorta like visiting the red light district and patronizing the whores. Some whores maynot be as advertised, some maybe infected, and some really just want to stuff a knife in your groin for your wallet. So it is surfer beware.
You learn from experience, you keep the good hacking sites (go packetstorm.org!), you scan often, and never trust one firewall/antivir/spy scanner.
